E-Learning

  1. Overview

The days of traditional classrooms - one teacher, dusty classroom desks, and claustrophobic four-walls are long gone - it"s the era of virtual classrooms. A growing number of schools in the UAE are adopting e-learning platforms, which is helping enhance the quality of student education.

We at Al Kamal American /international school Azra  use them to assign tasks, set collaborative learning experiences, share learning resources, to collect and mark student work and to support game-based learning.

However, one of the most pioneering e-learning platforms the school uses is google classroom , which allows students to attend virtual classes online. These interactive online lessons include screencasts from teachers, multimedia presentations,

The platform also hosts , forums, and web-based documents that ensure students reflect on their learning, all while collaborating with peers and teachers locally and globally.

E-Learning are offered with all work being completed using electronic technologies. Learners access primary content and instruction from an e-learning environment using a variety of tools including, but not limited to, e-mail, google class room , Gizmos , Quizzes , kahoot, quizlet,  text and voice chat, discussion boards, web pages, and multimedia technologies.  Depending on the teaching style of the school and classess and the lesson content, instruction can take place synchronously (all participants in the lesson log in at the same time) or asynchronously (participants log in and participate as their schedule permits), or some combination of the above. Getting Started with E-Learning

What is E-Learning @ AKAIS-Azra  E-Learning is electronic learning using computerized electronics  for completing online coursework, or lesson and  engage with students to copulate the tasks or homework  internet learning and many others. E-Learning can be delivered via internet to somewhere other than the classroom. At AKAIS-Azra , the use of different types of Learning Management Systems (LMS) such as google class room , Gizmos , Quizzes , kahoot, quizlet,  technologies, etc. are available. Moodle is a Learning Management System (LMS) that provides an integrated tool set used for developing and delivering courses or portions of lesson over

Rationale

Our overarching teaching and learning goal is for all students to make or exceed their expected rate of progress. The incorporation of ICT and e-learning is one of several important means through which we assist students to achieve this goal.

Our position can be summarised as:  At AL Kamal American International School Azra , we use ICT as one of a range of strategies for engaging and extending students to be successful learners and communicators. We value the potential of ICT to support students’ learning in new and complex ways. We see ICT and e-learning opportunities as valuable additions to our pedagogy.

Implementation

  1. Our involvement in the google class room from 2017- 2018 till now 2019-2020 LMS , provides access to pedagogical innovations using

technology to make a positive impact on student learning outcomes through enabling access to high quality, authentic resources and measurement tools.

  1. All students will have access to targeted quality e-learning opportunities in their classroom, and there will be accompanying

professional learning for teachers to ensure delivery of consistent programs and access to quality teaching across the school.

  1. Learning Technologies will be used appropriately in all our programs to enhance and support teaching and learning experiences.
  2. Students will be exposed to and supported in safely exploring a variety of software applications.
  3. Legal use of software will be followed and maintained and students informed of the appropriate use rationale.
  4. Skill development sessions for teachers will be provided both formally and informally.
  5. Students will be expected to use the Network and Internet in a purposeful and responsible manner. All families and students are required to sign the Acceptable Use Agreement upon enrolling.
  6. The eLearning tools will be an integral, but not exclusive, part of daily learning in the classroom.
  7. Students will be involved in a program including responsible use of eLearning technologies and awareness of cyber bullying and safety practices.

Get reading online

Besides essays, reports, exams, learning and teaching that have gone online, books are also available to students through technology in our school online library at http://www.akaisschool.com/library.php

Why students find smart learning process helpful

Smart learning and e-books can play a very important role in education in today"s world. My school is implementing smart learning wherever possible. We have the BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) programme, in which we can bring our own tablets from home and use it for activities and research. We have also been told to do research and activities in the form of challenge questions at home as homework.

Advantages of e-learning

1-Consistent instructor presence

2-Quick communication

3-A higher knowledge retention rate

4-Unique testing methods

5-Time and money saving

6-Self-assessment tools

7-Freedom and flexibility

8- Scalability

9- Less Impact On Environment

There may be other definitions, but I define e-learning (also called e-learning or eLearning) as: The delivery of a learning, training or education program by electronic means. E-learning involves the use of a computer or electronic device (e.g. a mobile phone) in some way to provide training, educational or learning material. E-learning can involve a greater variety of equipment than online training or education, for as the name implies, "online" involves using the Internet or an Intranet. CD-ROM and DVD can be used to provide learning materials. Distance education provided the base for e-learning"s development. E-learning can be "on demand". It overcomes timing, attendance and travel difficulties. An e-journey is one type of e-learning or online training. Blended learning is elearning combined with other training methods.

Your eLearning environment or community may include one or more of the following:

  • A space where you can collaboratively create, edit, link, and organize the content of a website
  • Information and documents that can be downloaded or printed
  • Resources for you to use
  • An online chat area for you to talk to your teachers and other students
  • Online quizzes and tests

Every course is different depending on what tools the teacher is using.

You could be involved in a range of activities including:

  • Asking questions and requests for other students/staff to answer in an online session
  • Sharing ideas through forums and chat sessions
  • Building your own resource
  • Uploading work-in-progress to a group site for peer review
