Head Of Department

• Provide co-ordination, management and supervision of long term and day to day curriculum planning, delivery and operations within the area of delegated authority
• Provide professional leadership to teachers within the area of delegated authority
• Provide framework within which students and staff may function effectively
• Ensure there is a suitable subject assessment programme for all levels or areas
• Ensure relevant goals of the school’s strategic plan are effectively implemented and evaluated
• Provide, through formal and informal interactions, appropriate support to teachers in their professional tasks and in management of student behaviour
• Provide effective communication link between the senior management of the school and the areas of delegated responsibility
• Maintain effective relationships both within the school and community
• Create a budget and monitor spending within the department
• Curriculum planning and delivery
• Ensure schemes, plans are up to date
• Observe and evaluate teachers within the subject field
• Provide appropriate and professional guidance and encouragement
• Participate fully in the school’s performance management system
• Manage curriculum resources
• Ensure students are informed of deadlines and expectations
• Ensure that assessment data is used to inform programme planning
• Follow school policies and guidelines
• Deal in a positive manner when dealing with discipline issues
• Conduct regular department meetings
• Contribute to school review and policy development
• Attend all HOD meetings
• Actively support school policy decisions, strategic targets and plans
• Provide positive role model to school community
• Provide positive feedback
• Develop strong relationship with parents, staff and students
• Any other assigned duties
